Hello - I read with interest that the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame has inducted military motorcycle riders into its ranks.

I want to say how
proud I am that my Dad, Charles Smith who volunteered from the Invermere area of BC, was one of those military motorcycle riders - a dispatch rider throughout Belgium and France during the second world war.  He also was part of the transportation unit - riding, driving and repairing just about any vehicle used in the Canadian army.  When the war ended and he was discharged and returned home, his first post war employment was as one of the very first bus drivers for the newly formed Calgary Transit system.

My Dad died in 1969 but fond memories of him live on in our family and many of us have a love of motorcycles just like he did.

I have attached a picture of him on his 'Snortin' Norton' - that's what he called it - there is even a family 'story' about him riding a motorcycle into a dance hall in England, during an allied forces dance, in order to get the attention of my Mother who was with the British Women's Air Corp.  He obviously attained his goal and they married in 1946 before coming to Canada and settling first in Alberta before moving back to BC.
