An effort by a Toronto-area MPP to ban children under 14 from riding on the back of motorcycles has some local riders riled up.

They’ve been writing and e-mailing Helena Jaczek, Liberal MPP for Oak Ridges-Markham, since word of her private members bill broke in the motorcycle community.

The bill is scheduled for second reading at Queen’s Park Dec. 4. Private members bills are brought to the legislature by individual MPPs, instead of the government.

Bill MacKinnon, a past director of the Sarnia Harley owners group, said most private members bills “die at second reading. I’m hoping this one goes that way.”
