As Grande Prairie Toys for Tots Dine and Dance was underway at the Army, Navy, Airforce Veterans Hall Saturday night, members of the organization received news Renée Charbonneau said no one ever wants to hear.

 

Two of their local riders were involved in a motorcycle accident at about 7 p.m. at the intersection of 100 Avenue and 116 Street, right about the time the dine and dance would have been kicking off.

 

Mark and Sylvie Day – newlyweds – were riding on the same bike when it went out of control while turning right at the intersection. Charbonneau said they were on their way home to drop off the bike before joining their friends at the dine and dance.

 

“The accident that struck them – and he’s a seasoned rider – can happen to anybody at any time,” said Charbonneau, a rider herself who goes by the alias of Belt-Drive Betty.

 

“When something happens on a motorcycle – when it goes bad – it goes bad real fast.”
