A Cop’s Apology to the One Percenters
In 2002, undercover ATF agent Jay Dobyns took on the case of a lifetime, infiltrating the most notorious outlaw motorcycle club, the Hells Angels.
The story is told simply from Dobyns’ perspective. He wanted the case to work. But he took his role almost too seriously. He was so immersed in the culture that not only did he became a fully initiated member of the Angels, [according to him, not the club] he nearly lost his wife, family, and self in the process.
The outlaw MCs, the (one percenters) as they are known, may have individual members operate outside the law, but what organization doesn’t. In fact, I have known a few former cops who lost their jobs because they operated outside the law. I digress....
The book was an easy read, and a fascinating look into a world most will never know. It takes the romance of a TV show like Sons of Anarchy and exposes the seamy underside of the life. What do I mean? Well, with Sons, you truly care about the characters and although they are criminals - sometimes quite vicious ones - you feel understand their motivation and root for them, because underneath it all, most of them are good guys.
The reality - at least according to Jay Dobyns’ ATF - is that most MC members are thugs. And while he genuinely liked and cared for some of them, he didn’t gloss over what he said he saw. Most of the people he encountered were tweaking on meth or other illegals, and quick to violence.
As a critical thinking human being, I was offended. As a former police officer, I was amused. So, although I, too, enjoy a good story, I do not have a romanticized version of police in my head. I can’t share the opinion that believes all motorcycle clubs, on their list, are crooks.
I find it incredibly amusing and not a little bit ironic that any group with a background in law enforcement based their whole identity around such a narrow perspective. Anyone can ride fast in a straight line, fellas, but if you don’t slow down, you will continually miss the point, that the road to the truth is never a straight line.

PARLIAMENTARY SUPPORT
It is important for all Riders to take note that there are many Members of Parliament who are totally committed to the success of this Pledge On Parliament Hill. So much so, that they have formed their own Parliamentary R2R Committee.
This is not a guarantee – but, through our Parliamentarians, we are working diligently to prepare a Box Lunch for all Riders on the HILL.
And there is every possibility that we will be welcomed by a Canadian Pipe & Drum Corp as we take to Parliament Hill.
MEDIA ATTENTION
We anticipate that there will be a substantial amount of North American and Israeli media coverage as this event unfolds, to the point that the message of the Holocaust and our joint Pledge of NEVER AGAIN will be heard, understood and reverberated throughout the land.
We also believe that there will several thousand people who are not Riders who will be on Parliament Hill to support and be a part of this incredible event
