RWP COMITTEE
A Simple Pin
I wear it with honor This pin bestowed It pays tribute to the ones Who have fallen to foe.
Pinned to my chest It remains for a year Close to my heart I shed but one tear
For those who question Why it is there You need not search The answer is clear.
Our country is free Because of her and him And to honor them all I wear this simple pin
At the end of the year I will wear it no more But forget them I wont Those who were here once before.
I’ll treasure forever This pin bestowed Representing them all That lay row on row.
To whom it may concern
I wrote this Poem to answer a simple question that I overheard recently from a little girl asking her parent. “What is that pin for on his uniform?” The answer from the parent was that it was something he “HAD” to wear.
I have never written a poem before, other than in school years ago but I thought I would give it a try. Once it was written I wondered, to whom I should give this to read and give me some positive or negative feedback? The local newspaper, my Commanding Officer, no, I decided to send it to someone who might see it for what it is. I hope someone will enjoy this and it’s meaning.
