From the Depths of File 13
One of the most frustrating things for any person is when you got to work and none of the tools you need to do your job work.
Back in December the decision was made to move away from our old host. They kept crashing our web site as they had too many sharing one server.
So, we bought the biggest shared hosting plan, based on the advice of the sales rep that looked at our site and asked us some questions. WRONG ANSWER MAN… our web site was slow and I was not happy. Ali wasn’t happy and no one else was either.
We were in the middle of the Show ‘n’ Shine and couldn’t move without disrupting the voting process and so On March 5th, we began the arduous process of moving AGAIN, this time to a virtual dedicated server. The process was complicated because some data was still on the old host as we were not done the first move…Ali finally gets stuff moved, flips the switch and for the first day things weren’t too bad, then slowly as the migration of the Domain Name Server (DNS) became complete, problems started becoming visible. We expected most of the ones that cropped up, but not the brutally slow site we had in front of us, that’s for sure.
Ali has never set up a server before, but with our hosting package on our new virtual dedicated server, came tutorials, chat help and phone in technical support. We figured on a couple of days of challenges.
In all it took 13 days to pinpoint the problem. But pinpoint it and deal with is she did. Ali is amazing – I am constantly impressed with how she attacks a challenge and finds a resolution. We were both exhausted by the time we finally had our break through, I can tell you that.
It is so wonderful to get up in the morning and be back on a routine that sees me done the news feeds in about an hour instead of the three and four it was taking!
Now that our web site is lighting fast again, faster than it has ever been in actual fact, we can begin the job of turning on modules, repairing broken bits and pieces of code and getting everything back working the way it usedto and better.
I am so very pleased, exhausted but pleased, as is Ali!
This coming weekend I will be, Air Canada willing, in Toronto for the National Tattoo & Motorcycle Show.
When I get back we will be going to print with the 2nd edition of the 2012 Phone Book.
This time around we will have 6-7 maps, just waiting on final approvals from some of our partners…
We will begin taking orders for them to be mailed out. Once I know what Canada Post is going to want for a pound of flesh, we’ll begin taking orders!
For those looking to grab books for free instead of paying the shipping and handling fee, we have sponsored the Motorcycle Ride for Dad right across the country, ALL 28 runs!
The first 100 riders to register for each ride will get a free phone book and a free subscription to the Busted Knuckle Chronicles!
We will also be providing books and subscriptions to attendees of Atlanticade, Bobcaygeon Bike Fest and Run to the Hills Rally.
Books will also be going out to our partners who are participating in touring maps.
There will be a number of places in the Yukon that you will be able to get books, the North Okanagan, the Kootenays, Jasper, North Eastern Alberta, Lesser Slave Lake and potentially the Bobcaygeon region in Ontario.
Not to mention at many of our partners in the book!
The phone book is going to be gorgeous! I can’t wait to show it to you all!!!!
Anyway, for the next two weeks it is nothing but nose to the grindstone finishing off the phone book!
The Toronto Show will be a pleasant working break in the middle of it all! The best thing will be being out with people instead of being behind a computer!!!
I am pleased to announce the release of the Travel Jasper by Motorcycle App.
You can download it to your smart phone – 2,200 phonesare covered with this App, same as the Event Calendar App (Which is getting an overhaul!)

Check it out – it’s FREE, it ‘s got TONS of info and it’s easy to use!
Just one of many new products and services we will be coming out with in the weeks and months ahead!!!!
I gotta run folks…have a wonderful weekend ahead and I look forward to seeing a whole host of riders at the Toronto National Tattoo & Motorcycle Show this weekend!
