BIDDEFORD (May 1, 2009): Biddeford resident K. Peddlar Bridges doesn’t just hold the flavorful title of biker-poet, he possesses it.

Bridges’ two-wheeled tributes have pleased audiences throughout New England, and the spoken-word events he helps organize locally are nourishing an intimate scene that gives area poets a forum to express themselves and bounce ideas off each other.

Although he claims he’s not very good at reading poetry, his rapid-fire, stream-of-consciousness delivery does justice to his writings, which were composed with the same rhythm in mind.

“‘Potato, Potato, Potato’ – they say that’s what a Harley-Davidson sounds like, and if you listen to my poetry it’s always got that ‘potato, potato,’ Bridges told a gathering of local poets and aficionados at Second Congregational Church in Biddeford last Friday. “I write ‘em that way. Originally from the North Shore area of Massachusetts, Bridges settled in Biddeford a while back and formerly hosted the Port Veritas spoken word events in Portland. Now he has turned his attention closer to home with local poetry readings, and he believes the city could be on the verge of a renaissance, becoming a regional center for artists of all kinds.
