Horry County Council members will discuss again what to do regarding the area's motorcycle rallies during a meeting tonight, three weeks after the council preliminarily approved restrictions for vendor permits, a higher permit cost and shortening the rallies.
County Council Chairwoman Liz Gilland said her ultimate goal was to reduce the noise, congestion and rowdy behavior during the rallies that has been the source of complaints for many residents opposed to the events. "We're trying to do what we can to help the home folks survive," Gilland said.
The Harley Davidson spring rally and the Atlantic Beach Bikefest, both in May, bring about 250,000 people each to the Grand Strand every year. Some businesses say curtailing the rallies would have a devastating effect on the economy, and bikers have said anti-rally efforts are discriminatory.
