Doug Amey is back on the road. The 56-year-old Kingston man, who had his leg amputated as a result of diabetes complications, has been housebound for three weeks because a thief brazenly stole his wheelchair from the lobby of his apartment building.
This week, following a story about the theft in the Whig-Standard, Amey received a new wheelchair from a woman whose husband had passed away.
Amey couldn't be happier. "I'm mobile again," he said.
His assistance was made possible by the members of Kingston's Canadian Army Veteran Motorcycle Unit, a community group composed of army veterans and supporters.
