Firefighter band performing benefit for crash victim's family

Toronto firefighter band Backdraft is coming to Peterborough Friday, to play a benefit concert for fellow firefighter and local paramedic Steve Van Hemme's daughter.

Mr. Van Hemme, 37, died Aug. 27 after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Parkhill Road East near Nicholls Oval.

Mike Strapko, a captain with the Toronto fire department, said the band is aiming to raise $5,000 to $10,000.

All the money will go into an education trust fund for Mr. Van Hemme's infant daughter Kayley.
