Motorists and bystanders doused the flame-shrouded driver of a motorcycle that caught fire after slamming into a pick-up truck southwest of Calgary Saturday.
The motorcycle collided with the small truck at the intersection of Hwy. 549 and 192 St. near Millarville, and immediately burst into flame, which engulfed the bike’s 41-year-old driver.
Quick-thinking witnesses rushed to the man’s aid and doused the flames with a blanket and a fire extinguisher.
The man, a Strathmore resident, was flown to Foothills hospital by STARS Air Ambulance in critical condition, while his 32-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The 22-year-old male driver of the pick-up truck from the Millarville area was not injured in the crash.
