Local motorcycle enthusiasts are outraged that the man responsible for a deadly crash received a $1,000 fine — a punishment they equate to a slap on the wrist.

"There's something drastically wrong with our system," said Wayne Pitt, general manager of Duke's Harley Davidson.

"That's a disgrace."

Devon Wagenaar, 18, pleaded guilty this week to failing to yield on June 14, causing a crash at the intersection of Talbot Trail and Erieau Road that claimed the life of motorcycle passenger Janet Holding.

The 52-year-old Chatham woman died when Wagenaar's pickup truck slammed into the motorcycle which was being driven by her husband Ian.
