KTM’s product plan for the next few years, inadvertently leaked at a recent dealer meeting, listed not one but two new large-displacement enduro models that will carry the Adventure nameplate. The first, dubbed the 1090 Adventure R, is expected to appear in late 2012 as a 2013 model. This will essentially be a stop-gap model based on the existing 990, with increased displacement, higher-spec components and updated styling. The second new bike, called the 1290 Adventure, is due one year later as a 2014 model. The bike you see here, which appears entirely unrelated to the existing production model, is thought to be that machine. READ ON

When Roger DeCoster left Suzuki to join KTM for the 2011 season, it was no secret that he wanted his protégé, 2010 AMA Motocross and Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey, to come with him. The main obstacle was KTM’s lack of a competitive 450. Focused on the FIM World Championship, the Austrian manufacturer had developed a downsized 350 that claimed two successive MX1 titles, but only won a single moto in America.

A: We don’t know, because KTM stopped importing the 125SX to the USA four years ago. Still, we know that KTM has made quantum leaps forward since 2008. 

Q: WHY IS THE KTM 125SX BACK?  

A: When KTM debuted the original KTM 144SX in 2008, its sales quickly eclipsed those of the 2008 125SX. KTM took one look at the sales numbers and decided to cut their expenses by only importing the more popular 144SX, which was soon to be called the 150SX. KTM is a relatively small motorcycle outfit that is based out of Mattighofen in Austria and despite their small size and specialised, usually off-road, motorcycles, they have quite the reputation. In the real world as well as figurative terms, they are an orange blur screaming up on the competition, taking them around the outside, leaving them floundering in it's wake.
