Recovery Ride Overview
1. Ride Objectives:
a) To support “Recovering addicts and alcoholics” and to promote “The Care Village” located in Ft. St. John region in North Eastern B.C. This a long term recovery facility founded on biblical principles and operated by NIGHTSHIFT Ministries of Surrey, B.C. b) Introduce Freedom Biker Church and the gospel message of Jesus Christ to un-churched bikers. c) Eight days of freedom and adventure on our bikes as we go head to head with some of the most challenging and scenic highways on the continent. It is what we bikers love to do
.
2. Ride parameters:
a) DATES: The ride will begin on Saturday July 21st, leaving Surrey at 9:00 a.m. The ride will conclude eight days and roughly 3400 kms later, Saturday afternoon July 28th at approximately 5:00 p.m.
b) DAILY MILEAGE / TRAVEL TIME:
Daily mileage will range between 350 and 550 kms, or roughly 5 to 6 hours riding time and our intention is to end each day’s ride no later than 5:00 p.m.
c) ACCOMODATIONS: At each day’s end destination, we will have booked campground reservations, based on the numbers provided to us from those riders who have requested to camp. Bikers / riders wishing to stay in motels, cabins or hotels will be given names and contact numbers 3 months prior to our road trip and reservations can be made by phone or email, paying by credit card.
d) RIDING GROUP DETAILS: Our intention is to cap the riding group at 75 bikes. Subject to the RIDE CO-ORDNINATOR, we may split into two groups when on the road.
e) RIDER IDENTIFICATION: All riders + passengers participating in this ride will be given a black armband with Velcro tabs and silver Hi-Vis stripe, which will read: “FBC RIDE” #1 to #75 – this armband will identify who is in our group when other bikers join us on the route and armbands will be a quick way to ID for head counts throughout the ride.
f) BIKE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 750 cc’s. Fuel range of 200 km’s *both of the above are subject to review
g) BIKE SAFETY: Each bike will need to pass a basic inspection prior to the ride commencing:
• brakes
• mirrors
• tire tread life
• tire inflation
• turn signals
h) RIDER SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Each rider will be required to attend a thirty minute “group riding” safety session in days leading up to the ride. Each rider will be asked to provide a contact name and number in the case of an emergency.
3. Registration and Costs: a) $40.00 registration fee payable for riders, and $ 25.00 for passengers when the “Recovery Ride” application is turned in to Freedom Biker Church, along with a signed waiver form. This fee will cover the cost of a T-shirt and an armband for each person registered. b) Balance of funds from registration fees will go towards incidental costs related to the promotion of the ride, and fuel for the chase vehicle (2001 Ford passenger van) which will be towing the FBC trailer, which will be modified for this ride to become a mobile repair shop, with room for one motorcycle should there be a breakdown on the trip. c) Each rider and passenger will be responsible for covering their fuel, accommodation, and meal costs.
