The Second Running of QuesnelBiker.com’s Monster Run
The Monster Run’s inaugural event took place July 9th and 10th, 2011. Eleven riders took part, raising just over $8,200 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Seven of the riders completed the 1,800 km trip in less than 24 hours, 2 riders received their Iron Butt status. For a “hair brain idea”, the event was a great success.
On July 13th and 14th, 2012, QuesnelBiker.com’s Monster Run is back. Are we insane? I guess we are! We have added about 100 Km to the trip. Last year, we started this off with a bang, riding 1,825 km in 30 hours or less. We had 5 participants qualify for Iron Butt Recognition by completing the Run in 24 hours or less.
Of the 11 riders that left Quesnel, all returned safely, although tired, stiff and sore.
We raised a total of $8,208.00 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. We had a goal of $5,000.00 and obviously shattered that! To say that we were proud of our efforts is an understatement.
It is our hopes that we can duplicate last year’s success. We are keeping our goal of raising $5,000.00
Where are we going? A little further than last year... the route is as follows:
Quesnel
Prince George
McBride
Jasper
Lake Louise
Edgewater
Golden
Sicamouse
Armstrong
Kelowna
Merritt
Savona
Cache Creek
Williams Lake
Quesnel
This should map out to about 1,894 km. Again, our riders’ safety is first and foremost. Riders have 30 hours to complete the Run and if they are back in Quesnel in 24 hours, they can apply for Iron Butt status.
Our rider’s safety is paramount. Riders are urged to take a few hours of sleep if needed. Your safe return is critical to the success of the Monster Run.
