CAV motorcycle rendezvous planned

19 Apr 2011

By Reg Clayton

Council granted approvals to the Canadian Army Veterans (CAV) motorcyclists in conjunction with ceremonial activities planned during the 5th Annual Lewis ICROSS National Honour Ride set for Kenora, July 29 and 30.

The considerations include permitting the riders to park their motorcycles at City Hall during a flag raising ceremony and at Lake of the Woods Cemetery for a memorial service. The cemetery will be closed to vehicular traffic during the memorial service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30.

Major General Lewis MacKenzie (Ret'd), is founder of the CAV's Old Guard and patron of ICROSS Canada, the International Community for the Relief of Starvation and Suffering. CAV supports the humanitarian charity through fundraising and donations of medical supplies and medicine for clinics and programs to treat children in Africa.

The CAV motorcyclists, a fraternity of retired and serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their supporters chose Kenora as the destination for their annual rendezvous in 2007. Riders make the journey from across Canada to take part in the event. Kenora CAV members belong to the 'Hindenburg Line' chapter.
