“The Prudhoe Bay Raid”… Our Journey so far…

Yesterday we made a 200 km round trip to the little town of Whittier on the Prince William Sound… From there we boarded a boat that took us on an 80 km trip to see several glaciers, and the wildlife in this part of the world…

I will post the photographs we took during this trip in the next day or two…

Today we have reached Valdez, which for us is technically the terminus of our Alaskan odyssey, before Trevor, Chenty and Mark begin their ride home to Salt Spring Island… For me, the penultimate leg of my ride around the world, began in Prudhoe Bay a few days ago…

“The Prudhoe Bay Raid”… Our Journey so far…

Our ride to Alaska…. We have covered 6 500 km since leaving Salt Spring Island two weeks ago…!!

Valdez is at the southern end of the Alaskan Oil Pipeline, which means we have managed to visit the points where this amazing structure both starts, and ends…!!

I will cover some of the astounding facts about this 800 mile long pipeline in a future post…

Our ride today was one of the coldest we have ever made, and Trevor and Chenty wore almost every piece of clothing that they have brought with them…!!

We passed many glaciers and snow-covered hillsides and mountains, and when the wind blows over these parts of the landscape, you better believe it gets cold…

And when it is raining at the same time, then you’re in for a very uncomfortable ride…

“The Prudhoe Bay Raid”… Our Journey so far…

Rain, and wind that whipped across the snow-covered mountains east of Valdez, made for a chilly ride…!!

Nevertheless, we made it safely to Valdez, and spent the afternoon looking for an Alaskan Bear and her four cubs… The have been making regular visits to a nearby Salmon Hatchery over the past few days…

“The Prudhoe Bay Raid”… Our Journey so far…

Had to make a stop at Bridal Veil Falls of course…!! Beautiful…!! Just like….

I have had very little time to work on my website, and this pattern will continue over the next week, as we make our way back into Canada and down towards Jasper and the USA border where I will take leave of my riding companions and enter Montana…

There are so many posts I still need to write, about the wonderful experiences we have had, the people we have met and places we have been to…

I will have to do one of those “catch up” posts soon, and begin filling you in on them all…

Tomorrow we ride to Tok, and the day after, we re-enter Canada and tackle “The Highway on Top of the World”, to Dawson City…  This road is only open in the Summer months and is rated dangerous even for snowmobile use…

So why am I doing it…??

Because I still have one good leg…!!  And Trevor dared me…!!
