I have spent the last three days resting up and being very well looked after by my friends Vince and Gabriella Ricci, who have gone out of their way to ensure that I remain both well-fed and lubricated, and taking just as much care of the Big Fella… More on my stay here when I catch up on all my posts…
Tomorrow morning I begin a series of seven rides that will take me across the USA over the next week or so, to Washington DC…
I will travel through Glacier National Park in Montana and on to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming… I will pop in to see Mount Rushmore in South Dakota before heading southeast across Nebraska and then south into the state of Missouri…
I will then ride diagonally across Illinois and then southeast again across Indiana, to Lexington in Kentucky…
From there I will seek out the Blue Ridge Parkway, due south of Knoxville, Tennessee…
This famous road includes a section that is known as “The Tail of the Dragon”, an 11 mile stretch of convoluted asphalt, that contains 318 corners…
None of them worth taking your eyes off the road for…!!
Not much has been written about the scenery on this road…!! Riders have been too busy focusing on keeping their bikes upright, while their passengers have usually spent the 11 miles with their eyes tightly closed, murmuring prayers that began with “Please…”
It runs on Highway 129, between Tennessee and North Carolina…
It is regarded as one of the finest roads for motorcycle enthusiasts in the world…!!
I plan to get to grips with this little challenge, early on a weekday morning, when I will hopefully have much of the road to myself…!!
After this, I will ride into the nation’s capital city of Washington. DC, to see about that photo with the White House in the background…!!
From there I will fly to the sunny Caribbean for a few weeks of R&R, before making the final ride to New Jersey on the 6th of September…
Although this might all sound very exciting, the best thing about this last series of rides, is the fact that I will be getting that much closer each day, to the wonderful woman who I cannot wait to marry and call my wife…!!
And that is why I named this post the “Back to You” Ride…
And this song says it all for me…. Crank up the volume….!!
The last few thousand kilometres are dedicated all to you Babe…
