STURGIS - There is no magic potion to eliminate traffic during the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally, according to Todd Seaman of the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
During a sparsely attended public meeting Monday in Sturgis, Seaman and other DOT engineers presented seven options to incrementally reduce congestion.
"None of these options are mutually exclusive," Seaman said. "We could do all of them or we could do none of them."
The options center on reducing congestion on S. D. Highway 34, especially eastbound traffic. DOT research showed that the highest peak of traffic during the rally is between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. heading east on Highway 34.
