A stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway is being dedicated as the Highway of Heroes to honour B.C.'s 12 Canadian Forces members killed in Afghanistan, as well as one killed in Croatia in 1994.
The section of the highway, between the 152nd Street exit in Surrey and the Sumas Way exit in Abbotsford, was unveiled Saturday during the second annual Memorial Ride for the Fallen.
The dedication is especially meaningful to Ann Bason, whose son Master-Cpl. Colin Bason was killed by a roadside bomb in Kandahar in 2007. Her younger son, Beric, went missing on a fishing trip just days after his brother's death.
