VIAIM Pig n Fin - a No Go

Pig & Fin is a NO GO

Ok everyone first thing I need to do is clear up the issue of the 2010 Pig & Fin.  I hate to be the one to say it but V.I.A.I.M. has had to cancel the 2010 Pig & Fin. So if you were planning a trek to the Island solely to attend it DON’T it is not happening. Main question I am getting: Is that a forever thing?  Simple answer:  We do not know yet.  We certainly hope not.

The other thing that seems to be getting misrepresented is that Vancouver Island Association for Injured Motorcyclists is dead in the water. That is totally not true. The Pig & Fin has been our fundraiser folks, IT IS NOT what we are all about!  Our mandate is to help the injured rider and their family in whatever way we can. Storing bikes, hospital visits, making sure you have medical coverage, transportation for appointments, babysitting, grocery shopping,  connecting with other organizations that may help in recovery, legal, 3 am phone calls if that is what is needed, financial if it falls within our guidelines and a long list of other things. We are continuing to do that. However as always “We can not help if we do not know” so if you know of someone who has gone down recently then don’t assume someone else has given us a call. Take a minute and do it. Please help us get the word out on both the above issues and thanks in advance.

This next part is focused more towards the V.I.A.I.M. membership and riders of Vancouver Island. Although we know our services are needed we are very short on people willing to step up to the plate and get involved, be it for a Directors position or to commit to a couple hours a month.  That takes us back full circle to the very first Pig & Fin which was held to see if there was enough interest to warrant A.I.M on Vancouver Island.  What we are having trouble with now is determining if there is still enough interest on the everyday workings of V.I.A.I.M. to keep going.  Everyone knows of the Pig & Fin. How many of you knew why there was a Pig & Fin or our Show & Shines?  Sure everyone rushes at the last minute to volunteer for the Pig & Fin but the truth is putting on an event like that takes year round commitment of more then just a handful. The running of the everyday business of a Society like V.I.A.I.M. takes more then just six people. Especially if it’s the same six people year after year. V.I.A.I.M. needs you plain and simple.  The AGM for our membership is coming up soon so watch the website and your snail mail and make plans to attend. If you have a concern with our website or question regarding V.I.A.I.M. please do not hesitate to contact one of us.  Without you there is no V.I.A.I.M.

Ride Safe and See you in the Wind and hopefully at the meeting.
