Motorcycle rally seeks volunteers, vendors

Attending trade shows to promote the Rally in the St. Croix Valley was an expensive proposition, but the Canadian co-chair believes it will pay off.
“We did create a buzz,” said Bob Hamel of the shows in Boston, Ma., Halifax and Moncton.

The rally hopes to attract up to 5,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to activities centred in Calais, Me., and St. Stephen July 1-8.
Fundraising to host the event has been difficult and slow said Hamel. 

“It’s been a difficult sell in a lot of ways. Many people were involved in Atlanticade and didn’t see anything out of it.”

Atlanticade is a motorcycle festival that began in 2007 in Moncton and two years ago moved to Saint Andrews. It has seen an attendance of upwards of 10,000 motorcycle enthusiasts and is now scheduled for the Canada Day weekend in July on Prince Edward Island. To date, the Rally in The St. Croix Valley has received $5,000 from the Town of St. Stephen, $1,000 from the Town of Saint Andrews and $2,000 from the Charlotte Coastal Region Tourism Association.
