Official numbers have yet to be released on this summer’s tourism season, but one number that has to be on the rise is that of motorcycle tourists. Especially now that August has brought some summer weather our way, two-wheeled motorists seem to be more plentiful than ever.
But do we have adequate infrastructure in place to accommodate these visitors and take advantage of the opportunities created by their travels? Recent evidence suggests that we do not, at least in some areas.
One group decided to visit the Cape d’Or lighthouse a couple of weekends ago, and got a nasty surprise when the gravel road they were traveling on turned into a soupy mess of red mud on an uphill incline about 5.7 km in. They rounded a corner and were in it without warning.
