AJAX -- Councillor Renrick Ashby is gunning his motorcycle for a good cause and he's inviting his fellow Ajax bikers to do the same as they take a scenic trip up to cottage country.
"It's our second annual Ride 4 Youth ... it's intended to address some of the issues here in town amongst youth," said Coun. Ashby.
It all starts between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the Notre Dame high school's north parking lot. The motorcyclists will head to cottage country on a scenic 150 kilometre ride up to Buckhorn where they'll have lunch, which is included in their registration. When the riders return to Durham, Coun. Ashby says the Harley-Davidson dealership in Oshawa has offered to give the group a behind-the-scenes tour.
Proceeds from last year's ride helped two families in need in the community. As well, funds went towards $2,000 scholarships for two local students heading to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
"One is for one student at Notre Dame and the other is for a student at J. Clarke," said Coun. Ashby.
The Ward 2 councillor has been riding for about three and a half to four years and he said he wanted to incorporate something he enjoys with a service to the community. To read the rest of the article: http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/news/article/135106
