SUMMERSIDE(PE) – March 26, 2012 – The Atlanticade Motorcycle Festival is very pleased to announce that John Mellencamp will be performing in Summerside, PEI as part of his 2012 “No Better Than This Tour”. The concert will take place on Saturday - June 30th at 7:30 pm inside the Credit Union Place which is serving as the headquarters location for Atlanticade.
Mellencamp will be joined by Canada's own Cowboy Junkies who are his special guests during the cross Canada tour.
Tickets to the general public will go on sale this Friday, March 30th but Atlanticade participants currently registered for this year's festival will be able to purchase tickets in an advance pre-sale which will occur on Wednesday and Thursday. Those participants will be contacted by email no later than Tuesday night with instructions on how to take advantage of the pre-sale ticket purchase.
Atlanticade Festival chairman Dale Hicks says the decision by the Mellencamp group and tour promoter Donald K. Donald to incorporate a tour date during the Atlanticade weekend is simply fantastic. “When we first starting planning this event with the Summerside folk we kidded about how great it would be to have someone like Mellencamp perform during our festival. The next thing we know Donald K Donald is on the phone inquiring about the possibility of adding us to the tour schedule” explains Hicks.
Mellencamp has just released a new album titled “No Better Than This” but shot to stardom in the 80's with a slew of hits including Pink Houses, Rockin in the USA, Hurt So Good, Jack and Diane, Cherry Bomb, Check It Out, Authority Song, and Small Town among others.
In fact Small Town could be the theme song for the Atlanticade performance as thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts will decend upon Summerside over the Canada Day weekend and cruise the scenic small towns of rural Prince Edward Island.
Hicks encourages anyone wanting to go to the concert to get their tickets before they go on sale to the public. “Once they open up tickets to the public on Friday this thing will sell out over the weekend, no question”.
“This announcement in addition to other activities soon to be added to the festival 5-day schedule will result in a huge event for motorcycle enthusiasts” says Hicks. “No doubt Atlanticade will be the place to be on the Canada Day weekend.”
