Inaugural Red Island Run Motorcycle Rally rolls into action in late August

A new motorcycle rally is seen as a strong vehicle to pitch Prince Edward Island as a great place for tourists to roll all over.
The Island has never been aggressively marketed as a destination for motorcycling, says Dave McLane, director of the first annual Red Island Run Motorcycle Rally set to roar into action here for three days in late August.

Organizers hope this inaugural rally will become an annual event that leads to motorbike enthusiasts racing to the province in large numbers.

Close to 1,000 motorcycles of all makes and models as well as about 1,500 visitors are expected to wheel in for this year’s event, generating an estimated economic impact of about $1.5 million.

“It will take probably two to three years for us to get our niche in the market because it is a competitive market but we can do it,” said McLane, 61, who has been riding a motorcycle on and off for more than 30 years.
