A 43-year-old man from the RM of Springfield is in critical condition at Health Sciences Centre after crashing his motorcycle on Friday in southwestern Manitoba, RCMP say.

A motorist noticed a damaged motorcycle in the ditch off Highway 23 and the unconscious man nearby at approximately 10 p.m. The collision scene is near the entrances to the communities of Somerset and St. Leon, in the RM of Lorne.

RCMP say the crash is still under investigation, however, the rider was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.

On August 25, 2009 at 11:34am, police and ambulance were dispatched to a collision between a northbound motorcycle and an eastbound pick-up truck at the intersection of Highway 205 and 216 south of Grunthal, Manitoba.

43-year-old Ronald J Clements of Grunthal, driver of the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to St. Pierre Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 79-year-old driver of the truck was treated at the scene and released.

Charges are pending.
