Last week's announcement that Moncton will host the 2012 Harley Owner's Group rally next August is pretty exciting stuff, and another example of how our little city keeps getting better at hosting regional, national and international events. READ ON

SACKVILLE - After 23 years, the Tantramar Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run is alive and well.

The event has raised more than $200,000 over the past two decades in children's toys and financial donations for needy families in the southeastern New Brunswick region as well as money for different organizations including Moncton Headstart, Sackville Christmas Cheer, Port Elgin District Voluntary Action Group, Dorchester Volunteer Association and Amherst "Christmas for Kids" Campaign.

The City of Fredericton is investing in traffic-signal technology that will not only detect vehicles at traffic-actuated intersections but bicycles as well.

The pilot project will see a digital radar-detection system installed at the intersection of Montgomery and York streets.

"As we invest in bike lanes and bike routes throughout the city and encourage cycling as an alternate form of transportation, the one challenge is that bicycles aren't always detected by sensors at traffic actuated intersections," said Coun. Bruce Grandy, chairman of the city's transportation committee.
