The decomposed body of a man was discovered Monday afternoon just off Highway 55 in the Eastern Townships, and police hypothesize it may be the remains of a man reported missing since July.

The body is in such an advanced stage of decomposition that the Surété du Quebec’s Laboratoire de sciences judiciaries et de médecine legale — the forensics lab made famous in the Kathy Reichs Bones novels — was called in to officially identify the remains. READ ON 


The chief of the Surete du Quebec has been fired by the Parti Quebecois government.

Richard Deschesnes was appointed to lead the provincial police force in 2008, and was supposed to carry out a five-year contract.

Cleanup is underway after a fire caused half a million dollars worth of damage to a suspected former Hell's Angels "castle" in Quebec Wednesday morning.

Outaouais police said they got a call from a neighbour to 122 rue Lafreniere in Val-des-Monts around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. READ ON
